I’m a British crime and psychological thriller author, and the creator of the Detective Kane series.
I write dark, character-driven thrillers about ordinary people facing situations that push them further than they ever thought they could go. My stories tend to sit in the grey areas between right and wrong, justice and revenge, and the choices people make when they feel they have nothing left to lose.
My first novel, Shadows of the Past, introduced readers to the dark side of Chicago through disgraced former Officer Ray Gordon and later Detective Evelyn Kane. The story continued in The Debts They Owe, while my standalone psychological thriller, After She Was Gone, allowed me to explore a different kind of story outside the Kane series.
For me, the characters always come first. I like flawed people, difficult decisions and stories where nobody is completely good or completely bad. I want readers to understand why a character does something, even when they completely disagree with what they have done.
I’ve always enjoyed thrillers that keep you wanting one more chapter, but I also want there to be something underneath the twists — grief, anger, guilt, obsession, family, loss and the consequences of the decisions people make.
I’m continuing to write both crime and psychological thrillers, with more stories currently in development.
